Gippsland Art Gallery member schools and individuals are invited to this seminar for VCE Art and Studio Art students in year 10, 11 and 12.

The second Accessing Art – VCE Seminar will take place at the Wedge Theatre and Gippsland Art Gallery on Thursday 19 May, from 10am to 2pm. The format has been updated from last year to allow more time for student or teacher driven activities in the gallery after lunch. BYO lunch. The tour is free for member schools (talk to your art teacher to see if you are a member) or $15 for individuals.

This inspiring seminar for Unit 3 and 4 VCE Art and Studio Art students, will focus on artist processes and gallery conservation techniques, as well as information on effective use of art language (including elements and principles), artwork display, exhibition presentation and preparation, gallery types and gallery roles.

The day will start at The Wedge in the John Leslie Theatre as a large group with addresses from guest artists as they share their art and art practice. Students will get an opportunity to ask the artists questions. Artists have been selected to provide a broad overview of the industry as they create works in a range of mediums from design, drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture and music. The morning session will run from 10am to 12.10pm.

After breaking for lunch (12.10pm to 1pm) students will get the opportunity to tour the gallery. There will be some artists from the morning session available to chat to students about their work and exhibition in the gallery.

In the period after lunch, students can elect to be taken on a back of house tour of the gallery (if you select this option you will be allocated a time via email). The back of house tour will focus on conservation techniques and information explaining a variety of art mediums.
