Wild Things is the debut exhibition at Gippsland Art Gallery from young local artist Hayden Jackson, whose electric paintings are an explosion of colour, rhythm, and movement.
Contrasting cool pastel hues with violent and dominating colours, Jackson describes his abstract paintings as “an emotional response” to his surroundings.
Jackson states “My work is a balance of evil and beauty, large areas of soft pastel colours balanced against harsh jagged line work is a metaphor for the turbulent but also prepossessing world in which we live.”
This exhibition contains textured large-scale works where Jackson manipulates the paint through partially controlled methods. The mark-making tools are “not the brush, but gravity, chance and judgement”.
The exhibition celebration for Wild Things will take place on Friday 15 November, 6:00pm, and all are welcome to attend.
Wild Things will be on display from 19 October to 1 December 2019.
