The Big Draw is back in 2019

Gippsland Art Gallery invites children and families to unleash their creativity in a range of free activities as part of The Big Draw 2019 which will be held during Children’s Week from Monday 21 October to Friday 25 October 2019. Drop into the Port of Sale, Wellington Centre, Level 2, 70 Foster Street, Sale during opening hours from 9.00am to 5.30pm.

Come and get involved in drawing for fun, for health, for relaxation, for community and for creativity!

The Big Draw 2019 theme is Drawn to Life - Creativity and Wellbeing, highlighting the role of drawing and creativity in improving our community health and wellbeing. This public drawing drop in program is designed to get you drawing!

Use the drawing materials provided to create a portrait of yourself or someone else. Leave your artwork with us and it will be displayed on the wall. Feel free to come back over the course of the week to make another artwork, and to see other artworks that are added to the wall.

Gallery Education Coordinator, Georgina Glanville will be there to assist you on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 3.30pm and 5.00pm.

Local artist Klara Jones will join us on Wednesday 23 October from 4.00pm to 5.30pm for a special portraiture session. Bring along a smart phone to take a photo of yourself or a friend. Participants will use this picture to draw a portrait with markers and other media. Klara will help participants to identify strong shadows and then block in these shadows, using shapes to mould the face.

The Sale Library will also be running exciting activities during this week! Drop into the Children’s Library on Tuesday 22 October between 3.30pm and 5.30pm and contribute to a selection of large collaborative colouring sheets of well-known children’s book illustrators. On Thursday 24 October at 4.00pm you are invited to the Sale Library to hear special guest, children’s author Rebecca McGregor talk about writing picture books, as well as the process of getting published.

We’ll be hosting these free events for families to celebrate Children’s Week. We are one of many organisations that between 19-27 October will be holding a free Children’s Week events for families. With a theme of ‘Children have the right to be healthy, safe and happy’, we celebrate the talents, skills and achievements of young people in an exciting program that will engage the senses, capture the imagination, and encourage creative expression. This Children’s Week activity is presented by Wellington Shire Council in partnership with the Victorian Government.
